cupcake princess socks

Whoever in the world came up with how to knit socks?!?!  It's genius, but not what I would have come up with on the first try.  Thank you, generations upon generations of knitters, for figuring out how to knit socks!

I first mentioned these socks way back in the beginning of April when they were just a wee little cuff.  They're a bit short (I wanted to try to get the both out of one skein of Spud & Chloe so I left out a lace repeat on the leg) but not noticeably so.

The problem with sock knitting is that my pretty lacy socks are so much prettier than my regular socks, so I'm afraid to wear them!  What if I ruin them?!  What do I wear them with?!  Maybe when I knit a few more pairs I'll be less scared to wear them out.

wip wednesday: big green

Big Green on Ravelry

Do I need a big winter cowl in the middle of June?  Absolutely not!  But I got yarn for my birthday and I'm feeling far too lazy right now to swatch for another project, so a gauge-is-not-important cowl it is!

saroyan

Saroyan on Ravelry

Hallo, after having a big birthday bash last night for myself, I thought I'd show you some more knitting I've done for other people's birthdays.  It's not all me, me, me around here.  Only for the month of June.  Luckily this was knit for an April birthday!

The pattern is the free Saroyan pattern from Feministy.  When I first saw the pattern I knew it would make a perfect birthday present for one of my best friends since childhood, the other manager of Pure Joy Farm.  It's knit in a very soft thrifted acrylic yarn (Gala Festival, obviously not the eyelash version though the yarn I used is absolutely not bulky weight).  I had originally planned on adding beads but the beads I bought for the project were too small.  I'll just have to try beaded knitting some other time.

I also used this mod for pointed tips.  I don't have any pictures of the recipient wearing my work of art because she lives on the other side of the state, but she does like it!

pre-birthday

Oh, I meant to put this post up weeks ago!  My birthday is tomorrow (TOMORROW!!!), so every fun purchase I've made recently has been a birthday present.  I wanted to show off a little bit, so here are some pics.

The Webs Anniversary Sale was a fantastic excuse to go a little nuts on knitting related birthday presents.  I heard about Amy Herzog's new book Knit to Flatter on the Webs podcast and knew I wanted a copy.  I also like a surprising number of patterns from the Summer 2013 Interweave Knits magazine so I figured I'd buy the whole thing because why not!  It's my birthday!

The necklace isn't a knitting related present, but it came wrapped up so nicely that I couldn't resist adding it to this birthday loot post.  It's such a perfect bauble: a glass sphere filled with dandelion seeds!  It came from Etsy (where else would a wonderful bauble filled with dandelion seeds come from?) from a shop called The Handing Garden.

Last on my brag list is a skein of Blue Moon Marine Silk.  During the Anniversary Sale at Webs all Blue Moon yarns were 25% off.  Since I've never knit with any Blue Moon yarns it became another birthday present!

I took these pictures a couple weeks ago, so at this point I can add a sea shell shawl pin (also a Webs purchase) and a dress from Modcloth to my list of birthday presents.  I'm sure you can tell that my birthday month is my favorite time of the year.
