i've been pinned!

This is definitely a first!  I've been pinned!  My Lining the Very Warmest Mittens tutorial made it's way onto Pinterest!

I just set up my own account on Pinterest (I know, I know, I'm so behind), otherwise I probably wouldn't have even noticed!  What a nice feeling, to know that someone found my tutorial useful!

#100!

Happy 100th blog post to me!!!

This little blog has served me well over the past two and a half years!  It's also come a very long way since then!

When I first started seriously posting I thought this would be a fashion blog with a smattering of craft related posts, and that's how I treated it for the longest time.  Here is baby blogger Amelia in my first post, and here is my first craft related post (crochet! I really would like to crochet more!).  It wasn't until the beginning of this year that I started keeping track of my knitting here and treating the blog more like a craft blog with a smattering of fashion.  It took a year long break to make this switch, but I'm pretty happy about it!

The photo above is an accidental pile of my favorite colors, so I decided to snap a quick pic.  From top to bottom you see some little cabled mitts, the first finished very warmest mitten, and my zig-zag prototype!  You'll see finished project pictures of them soon as I move on to my next 100 posts!

pre-birthday

Oh, I meant to put this post up weeks ago!  My birthday is tomorrow (TOMORROW!!!), so every fun purchase I've made recently has been a birthday present.  I wanted to show off a little bit, so here are some pics.

The Webs Anniversary Sale was a fantastic excuse to go a little nuts on knitting related birthday presents.  I heard about Amy Herzog's new book Knit to Flatter on the Webs podcast and knew I wanted a copy.  I also like a surprising number of patterns from the Summer 2013 Interweave Knits magazine so I figured I'd buy the whole thing because why not!  It's my birthday!

The necklace isn't a knitting related present, but it came wrapped up so nicely that I couldn't resist adding it to this birthday loot post.  It's such a perfect bauble: a glass sphere filled with dandelion seeds!  It came from Etsy (where else would a wonderful bauble filled with dandelion seeds come from?) from a shop called The Handing Garden.

Last on my brag list is a skein of Blue Moon Marine Silk.  During the Anniversary Sale at Webs all Blue Moon yarns were 25% off.  Since I've never knit with any Blue Moon yarns it became another birthday present!

I took these pictures a couple weeks ago, so at this point I can add a sea shell shawl pin (also a Webs purchase) and a dress from Modcloth to my list of birthday presents.  I'm sure you can tell that my birthday month is my favorite time of the year.

2013

The world didn't end in 2012!  Hurray and happy New Year!  We had a very quiet night here; we went out to see some friends at the bar but were home by 11.  I only barely stayed awake to see the new year cuddled in bed with Don and the puppy.  After that, with my responsibilities fulfilled, I promptly fell asleep.

I do have some 2013 Goals that I would like to share to keep my self accountable.

1. Use this space

I've started working on this goal a little bit already.  As for near-future goals, I'd still like to post about the knitting I did for Christmas.  For the year, I'd like to continue posting, aiming for 1 or 2 posts a week.  I'd like to do some design work on the blog (spruce it up, make it pretty).  Maybe make some blog friends, get some readers?

2. Train the puppy

We've started reading My Smart Puppy as a training guide and we're going to sign up for puppy obedience classes.  Backy's not very well house trained and she's very nippy.  Neither of these are good.  'Nuff said.

3. Start running again

I started running this past summer but stopped about a month in.  I'd like to pick it back up again and take Backy running with me.

4. Cook more meals

I started today by making smoked salmon chowder! This goal feels difficult because I like cooking, but Don is an incredibly picky eater.  I have to stop feeling guilty about cooking things just for myself and leaving the rest as meals for work.  Maybe do some light meal planning?

5. Clean the house

Hate cleaning, like living in a clean house.  Wah wah wah.  I need to get better at maintenance cleaning so that cleaning isn't an ordeal.

That's it!  I don't feel the need to make any crafting or knitting related goals.  Those activities happen so easily that any goal I made would look more like "put the knitting down and clean the damn house."  And that's not a fun goal.  Some it-would-be-nice goals are: use my sewing machine more often (get the poor thing serviced!), and figure out a small, craft related, income augmenter.  Just not anything that makes me hate a hobby.

So. I've had this "blog" for well over a year, wrote some posts with bad pictures, took those posts down, and now I want to try again.

My name is Amelia. I'm a twenty-something year old trying to figure out how to live in this world without a college degree. Someday I'll go back to school, but not yet.

Recently I've been trying to dress purposefully, not just wear clothes. I've been reading blogs like Kendi Everyday, What Would a Nerd Wear, Already Pretty, and so many more for a while and want to try to document what I'm wearing.

That being said, I also knit, crochet, sew and craft. I'm not sure what kind of mixture I'm going for with fashion, crafting, and other things of interest to myself. I guess we'll see.

I wish I had taken a detail shot of the print on my dress, it's the nicest pink floral. I'll remember next time!

P.S. I've never been very good at having my picture taken. This is what most of the pictures looked like.
