Mermaid's Necklace on Ravelry

Hello, just stopping in here quickly today to tie up a loose end: the crochet necklace I started in May!  This poor necklace had to be crocheted twice since I didn't like the first iteration, shown below.  The length was wrong and the pearls were too evenly spaced.  So with the necklace's rebirth I decided to also give it a new name: the Mermaid's Necklace!

Since I didn't buy the faux-pearls specifically for this project (I pulled apart a vintage necklace that was far past it's prime, though I kept the clasp and used it to finish this new necklace) I ended up with quite a few left over pearls.  As you can see I've already made some matching earrings, but I still have so many left and no idea what to do with them!

My favorite part is the three closely spaced pearls to the right in this picture!

Since it's a little hot to be knitting sweater these days (though that doesn't stop me, we have an air conditioner that I can sit in front of), I've moved into jewelry making.  This will actually be my second attempt at this necklace because I didn't like how it turned out the first time.

When I found these earrings at the Goodwill I thought they were handmade because they looked like they might be made from old magazine images. They also had kittens on them, and you can't go wrong with kittens, so I brought them home.


Turns out Fran Mar, which is the company name on the back of the earrings, made a lot of jewelry throughout the sixties and seventies with "moppets." Adorable long haired peace loving children jewelry.

I got this charm bracelet yesterday at the Goodwill for two dollars. It was on the counter as I was paying and it was so weird that I couldn't help but get it. Then I ended up wearing it all day.

The only charms on it are a swan, a bear (or a monkey? I have no idea what it actually is), and a rabbit, and they repeat in that order. They also cycle through being a silver-ish metal, a copper-ish metal, then a gold-ish metal. Really, you should look at the bear closely. The face is really amazing.
