This summer shawl has a sad back story: I started it a couple weeks ago as a birthday gift, but I'm not really talking to the person I was making it for anymore. Hopefully by the time her birthday rolls around in July we'll be speaking again, but I'm not going to put the time and effort into knitting a shawl for someone who so easily flits in and out of my life.
I guess the positive side of the story is that now I'm knitting the shawl for my own birthday. When I started it I knew I'd have a hard time giving it up, and now I don't have to.
